Watch South Africa vs New Zealand 1st Test day 3 highlights on 10-3-2017. NZ vs SA cricket highlights. A marvelous innings of 130 runs from Kane Williamson provided New Zealand an opportunity to gain some first-innings lead against South Africa. It was his 16th century and he got his 130 off 241 balls, with 18 fours. After his departure, New Zealand seemed to be in panic but then Watling scored his fifty to ensure his team’s lead. These two batsmen rescued the team at critical moments when New Zealand’s batting was almost at standstill.

They lost five wickets in two sessions scoring only 127. Ross Taylor’s injury was the main cause behind their hesitance to take aggressive route. Without their frontline batsman, others felt pressure which had bad impact on their batting.

Williamson did not add to his overnight score of 78 for the first 50 minutes of play as Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel sent down demanding spells, but made better progress in the second hour, reaching his hundred from 195 balls when he lapped a full toss from JP Duminy. It was his third century as captain, but on a different level to the previous ones against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, and took him to within one of Martin Crowe’s record of 17 hundreds.

He continued to purr along early in the afternoon, alongside the gritty Watling, before Rabada found his outside edge with one that nibbled with the new ball. It ended a stand of 84 alongside Watling and almost brought the innings to a halt. Santner, who survived an early DRS call for caught behind, played one scoring shot off 41 deliveries – and that came off his fourth delivery – before driving a full, wide delivery from Morkel low to cover.
