Watch South Africa vs New Zealand cricket highlights. NZ vs SA highlights today on 16-3-2017. N Zealand vs S Africa highlights of the 1st day of 2nd Test played at Wellington. Today South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first. Their decision proved correct when New Zealand lost their first 3 wickets at the score of 21 runs. Latham scored 8, Williamson just 2 and Broom went on duck. Raval tried to control the damage but he also lost his wicket to Maharaj and after scoring 36 runs, returned to the pavilion. Soon Neesham was stumped off the bowling of Maharaj. At this stage, New Zealand were 101 for 5, a very difficult situation for the team. However Henry Nicholls rescued his team to some extent and without further loss and at Tea, they were 160 for 5.

Today New Zealand’s top order was without Ross Taylor which was one important factor behind du Plessis’ decision to field first. Morne Morkel, who did not concede a run until his 15th delivery having been elevated to opening the bowling, could have had a wicket in his third over but South Africa did not opt for the DRS for an lbw appeal against Tom Latham which came back as three reds on the replay. However, that did not bring an upturn in fortunes for Latham who soon edged a delivery that nipped away to third slip.

For South Africa, Rabada and Maharaj took two wickets each during the first two sessions. Rabada’s ball that trapped Kiwis captain, Williamson into an LBW was a beauty. It swing sharply at the batsman who was given out and his call for DRS didn’t help him.

Broom’s debut in Test cricket didn’t go well as he faced only four balls before getting out at duck. After South African captain decided to attack through his specialist spinner, Maharaj, his decision again worked well. New Zealand is in dire need of a 300 plus score in first innings.
