England had to concede an innings defeat in Mumbai even after scoring a handsome 400 in the first innings. Today it was in Chennai, where they score well beyond 400, 477 to be precise in the first innings yet they had to concede an innings defeat. This has been pretty much unbelievable for everyone. They were 97 for no loss when they went to the lunch today. They were trailing by 185 that time on the 5th day in their second innings that was started from being trailed on 282 yesterday on the 4th day. Comparing this Chennai pitch to Mumbai, it was moe flat and less bouncy that refer to a very good batting track. These are the reason why this innings defeat is sounding unbelievable to most of the people.
This is the 7th time England is touring any sub-continent country. Coming to the last match of the series already lost by 3-0 they were well on a course to draw this match comfortably. The visitors were to play just nine more overs to avoid the Test defeat. Eventually ended up by losing by an innings and a good 75 runs.
A few weeks ago, England lost all their wickets in a single session against Bangladesh in Mirpur. It was a way more comfortable batting condition and they lost all their 10 wickets within 48.2 overs. They scored only 104 during this time while the opener themselves laid a solid foundation of 103 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja surely has been the man for India today. He literally snatched the match from England almost single-handedly with the ball after the glorious performance of KL Rahul and Nair with the bat in the 3rd and 4th day.
Jadeja claimed 7 wickets in an innings for the first time in Tests and a ten-for for the first time in a match. And of course two incredible catches one of them was the catch of the match for sure. On the other hand, England only has themselves to blame for this defeat in the last match. Batsman after batsman came and kept departing in ridiculously hasty manner. Eventually what caused being thrashed by the home side.
Prior to the third and last session of the match, the visitors had 6 wickets in hand and point to be noted was, their tail end is capable of batting for some time and they did it in the first innings as well. Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes were at the crease to start the proceedings after tea. Both the batsmen were in good form in this series for England and they were looking good in this innings too. But not too lately Jadeja start his rampage and had the better of Moeen Ali. Jadeja kept bowling at the rough area continuously. Moeen came down the track on a ball to hit Jadeja probably for a giant six and miss-timed it to Ashwin in the mid-on region. Stokes have also been caught at mid-on looking to work with the turn by going on the back foot.
Since the pitch was absolutely batting paradise, till that time it was not looking like for England to lose their rest of the wickets such quickly even after the fall of Moeen and Stokes.
Meantime the leggy Amit Mishra bowled a nice googly to get rid of Liam Dawson. Soon after the number 9 Adeel Rashid went off a brilliant catch at point by Jadeja of a ball by Umesh Yadav. Then Jadeja finished the job by picking up no.10 Broad and no.11 Jake Ball. Cook and his men have quite a big break to start the ODI series after been thrashing in the Test series by 4-0. Start of the one-day series is scheduled on the 15th January 2017.
